Welcome to VIB-UGent: Center for Plant Systems Biology (PSB)
At PSB, our mission focuses on addressing climate change, advancing sustainable agriculture, and conserving biodiversity through innovative plant research. In the next decades, the world market for plant-derived products is expected to grow exponentially. Not only do we rely on plants to feed the growing world population, but plants will also play a pivotal role in providing a significant portion of our energy needs, and in fulfilling our demand for renewable industrial resources.
We framed our research to address important challenges and opportunities for plant research.
Take a Virtual Tour!
Have you noticed the yellow lights glowing from the building's roof? They shine brighter on cloudy or rainy days and fade in the sunlight. These lights protect the delicate plants inside the greenhouses, ensuring they get the consistent light needed to grow into beautiful tomatoes, corn, or watercress. Want to see inside? Whether you're a student, researcher, or nature enthusiast, our virtual tour gives you a behind-the-scenes look at our innovative work. Click on the door illustration to start your tour of the greenhouses!

PSB garden
A currently unused field plot close to PSB at the Tech Lane Ghent Science Park will be used for non-GMO field trials. The idea is to give students, postdocs, and personnel of VIB the opportunity to experiment with different plants and crops and to build a community garden this way.
