Welcome to the VIB BIO-incubator. Through providing specialized infrastructure to young and established companies, incubators and accelerators act as a breeding ground for innovation. Both young start-ups and international pharmaceutical companies can develop, find important partners, and tap into available talent and know-how.
VIB pioneered the exploitation of the first bio-incubator in the late 1990s in Ghent. This bio-incubator houses several labs used by various companies, such as Protealis and BioLyo, for research in biotechnology.

BioLyo: Experts in Live Bacterial Products!
BioLyo started in 2020 to bring new life to making vaccines and other treatments with live bacteria, like the pertussis vaccine BPZE1. Instead of relying on other companies, BioLyo’s team, led by biotech expert Marcel Thalen, decided to do it all in-house for better control and quality. They focus exclusively on live bacterial products (LBPs), handling each step from start to finish to make sure these unique medicines are made right.
