Welcome to Textiles!
In this unique and expansive building, everything revolves around the fascinating world of the textile and plastic processing industry. But who can you find here? That’s an easy one! You'll find Centexbel, BQA, and at the very back, the Centre for Textile Science and Engineering (CTSE).

Centexbel – Your Textile Competence Centre
Who are we, and what do we do? In these various laboratories, all kinds of textiles are tested for durability. For example, there’s a physical lab where raincoats are put to the test, a fire lab where masks and stuffed animals are checked for flammability risks, and a lab that investigates the safety of carpets and rugs. Check out the video to see how toys are tested!
Take a Virtual Tour!
Curious about Centexbel’s different labs? Embark on a virtual tour and explore the labs for personal protective equipment (PPE), carpets, masks, and other textile materials undergoing chemical, physical, and fire testing. Centexbel Leads Innovation in Aircraft Recycling with Award-Winning Solution
Earlier this year, Centexbel's groundbreaking innovation won the prestigious 2024 Techtextil Innovation Award. As planes retire after 20 to 30 years, they often end up in massive storage lots awaiting dismantling and recycling—a challenging process. To tackle this issue, four European companies, including Centexbel, joined forces to develop more efficient recycling methods, reducing waste and promoting sustainability in the aerospace industry.
Centre for Textile Science and Engineering (CTSE)
In addition to Centexbel and BQA, the Centre for Textile Science and Engineering (CTSE) is located here, at the very back of the building; 70A. We are a team of experienced textile scientists dedicated to fiber and polymer material innovation, making our expertise available through collaboration and testing. Formerly known as the Department of Textiles, the CTSE is a renowned name in the textile world, both in Europe and globally. It’s part of the Department of Materials, Textiles, and Chemical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Ghent University. Our director is Prof. Karen De Clerck.
